Day 9 – MAD Bashers Cross Finish Line!!
NewsPublished August 7, 2010 at 12:29 am 231 CommentsWOW… The time on the bash has absolutely flown!! Today is our final day with only a few hundred km to go!!
With a big brekky under the belt as always, I jumped in the drivers seat of Youngies Outlaws 408 (Holden Kingswood station wagon) and guided the old girl over ditches, crossings, humps and lumps! She drives remarkably well for an old girl that has travelled quite a few bashes!
Sone great stops enroute today.., Mamu rainforest walk and tower where we were treated to port and cheese at the end if our walk. Then off to rainforestation for a huge buffet brunch… Soooooo much great food on the bash ;0)
Had an army duck ride at our lunch stop too which was tame but interesting… I suppose it would be tame after 3000+ km in bash cars travelling tracks and trails most people are not allowed to travel on!?
Was quite a sad moment leaving lunch knowing we had just received our last set of route instructions… TWas a windy trip down the range popping out about 15 km north of Port Douglas. The bash all met up and assembled at the small Port Douglas airport before leaving 10 at a time to ease congestion in town… So at around 4.30 pm, I was privelidgedto drive 408 over the finish line where 100′s of people cheered on each car as it came thru… An amazing experience that I’ll never forget!

After scrubing up at the hotel, we bused into town where variety once again had outdone themselves by baracading off a park overlooking the sea… A huge improptu outdoor buffet restuarant with impressive lighting and 21st themes… The band was as great as the views… And we were treated later in the evening with some great tunes from Neil Diamond – who arrived on a mean chopper trike!! After quite a few resfreshments, we ventured to the local pub for a messy final evening…
